Narcissists will apologize when it benefits them somehow, but don’t expect any real remorse. They are very good at saying “I’m sorry” when they aren’t. It’s not that they don’t feel bad; narcissists do, but only because they got caught. Now they have to pretend they care about what you think of them. A narcissist will apologize to you when they’ve been caught doing something wrong, but it’s never sincere. Saying sorry is just an easy way for them to get out of trouble without actually having to do anything about it. It’s just a way for them to save face and ensure that you don’t leave them.

Narcissists know that making promises about the future will make their victims more likely to stick around. So that’s exactly what they do, even though they have no intention of following through on those promises. Narcissists don’t think of their words as lies; they think of them as ways to keep you under their control. They are very good at making you feel special, but that doesn’t mean they will follow through on what they tell you. They will say whatever it takes to get their way and make themselves look good. But once they have what they want or when something better comes along, all bets are off.
