Narcissists often claim to have achieved things they haven’t. They may exaggerate their accomplishments or even flat-out lie about them. A narcissist might tell you they graduated from a prestigious university when they dropped out after one year, or they may say they have an advanced degree when they only completed a few classes before quitting school altogether. Narcissists love to brag about themselves and make themselves look good in every situation. When you ask them about their job, they’ll tell you they were promoted or that they’ve been nominated for an award. But when you check the record, it turns out they were just shortlisted. Narcissists will tell you they’ve won a prize, but they were just one of the many nominees.

You’ll never really know what a narcissist is thinking or planning because there are no limits to what they’ll do to get what they want out of life. Sometimes that includes lying to people’s faces. They often pretend to have feelings that they don’t have, such as love and empathy, to get what they want from a person. A narcissist might tell you that he loves you when he wants money from you. Narcissists have difficulty expressing their emotions correctly, so they say whatever they think you want to hear. If they feel sad, they might say they’re happy. If they’re angry, they might pretend to be calm.
