Narcissistic personality traits are often inherited, but they can also be developed. A person who grows up surrounded by narcissistic figures may eventually become one of them. These individuals often see themselves as perfect and self-righteous, and they may bully others into adopting similar behavior. They are trained to believe they deserve the highest position and have an inflated sense of self-importance. NPD often results from traumatic experiences, such as parental neglect or other forms of abuse. Those with NPD struggle with empathy, as they often see the world as revolving around them. Treating NPD requires long-term counseling and self-esteem development. Contrary to popular belief, a narcissist is not inherently evil; they, too, are victims of a harsh world and need compassion.
