If someone shows them they’re not special, they must confront this reality, causing them great distress. That’s why they try to keep others down—to protect their false sense of self.
Remember, narcissists are afraid of many things, including rejection, being ordinary, and having their true selves exposed. They may claim to be fearless, but their fears often overwhelm them.
