They thrive on having control over people and situations. If someone leaves them, they will go to great lengths to reassert their authority and prove they haven’t lost their grip.

Narcissists often believe you owe them something, even after mistreating you. They may try to guilt you into resuming the relationship, portraying themselves as victims of your “selfishness” or ungratefulness.
They’ll attempt to make you feel obligated to repay their so-called efforts or sacrifices, even when these claims are exaggerated or fabricated. Don’t let their manipulations make you feel guilty—you’re not required to stay in a toxic relationship.
