When narcissists feel rejected or hurt, they often return seeking revenge. They don’t easily forget perceived wrongs and may try to punish you emotionally or socially.
Whether by spreading rumors, causing disruptions in your life, or subtly undermining you, a narcissist’s return often carries the intent to “settle the score.”
Reason #7: They Need Your Attention and Validation
Narcissists often return because they crave attention and validation. Their self-esteem is rooted in external approval, making them desperate to maintain connections with those who have previously fulfilled these needs.
Even after a breakup, they may try to remain in your life to ensure they continue receiving the validation they rely on.
Reason #8: They Want to Ensure You Still Need Them
Narcissists need to feel indispensable. They’ll return repeatedly to confirm you still depend on them emotionally, financially, or otherwise.
This need to be needed fuels their desire to maintain power and control in your life, even after the relationship has ended.
