Introverted narcissists are particularly prone to withdrawal during a collapse. Unlike their overt counterparts, who may demand attention and authority, introverted narcissists may retreat from conversations or ghost others. This passive-aggressive behavior is an attempt to regain control, often expecting others to seek them out and provide validation, even if no offense was given.
6. Negative Projection
Even at their lowest, narcissists can engage in gaslighting, making others feel responsible for their pain. They may project their negative emotions onto those around them, expecting others to share in their misery. For instance, if a narcissist comes home angry from work, they might lash out at a partner enjoying themselves, attempting to drag them down to their emotional level.
7. Intense Thirst for Revenge
Narcissists have a simplistic worldview when it comes to retribution. If they feel attacked, they often respond with an overwhelming desire for revenge. They harbor grudges and will seek to retaliate against anyone they perceive as responsible for their distress. This mindset can lead to dangerous confrontations, especially for those close to them.
