Many victims of narcissistic abuse experience symptoms of C-PTSD, which can include chronic self-doubt, hypervigilance, emotional dysregulation, and flashbacks. Narcissistic abuse is a form of complex trauma, and healing from it takes time. It requires you to face your memories and emotions, process them, and ultimately make peace with what happened. This is not a quick process and requires patience and inner work.
5. Complex Flashbacks
Flashbacks are another common struggle. These are involuntary and can be triggered by something in your environment that reminds you of the abuse. When you’re in a flashback, it feels like you’re reliving the trauma all over again. Flashbacks often come with toxic shame, guilt, and a harsh inner critic. Understanding that these flashbacks are a part of trauma and that they won’t just disappear with time is crucial to your healing process.
