After an intense confrontation, a narcissistic parent might suddenly disappear and give you the silent treatment. This is designed to trigger abandonment fears. You’ll wonder if they’re okay, and others might reinforce this fear by saying they haven’t heard from them either. This is a manipulation tactic to make you feel vulnerable and responsible for fixing the relationship – something you absolutely do not need to do.
6. Wrath of the Inner Demon
When nothing else works, a narcissistic parent will rage. This isn’t ordinary anger; it’s extreme, vindictive rage. They may say hurtful things like, “I hope your children do to you what you did to us,” or they might threaten to disinherit you. They may even try to use the legal system against you, file false reports, or demand repayment for things like your education. This is where their true desires are revealed – that they viewed you as an investment, not as a child.
