Covert narcissists may exhibit false modesty as a means of seeking admiration. They might downplay their achievements or skills in a way that invites compliments, despite not genuinely believing in their self-deprecation.
6. Self-Serving Empathy
While a narcissist may appear supportive, their empathy is often self-serving. They may comfort you in tough times, but their motives are typically rooted in a desire for validation. For instance, they may donate to charity only when others are watching, caring more about how they are perceived than about helping others.
