2. When You Take a Narcissist by Surprise
Narcissists love predictability because it allows them to control you. They are calculated, knowing which specific words or actions will provoke a specific response from you. They know how to make you feel angry or sad, and they use this predictability to maintain control.
However, when you take them by surprise, when you do something unexpected or behave unpredictably, it shocks them. When they are unprepared for your actions, they are at risk of being exposed, something they deeply fear. If you remain calm or refuse to react, it debilitates them because they don’t have the tools to handle the situation. Without predictability, they lose control.
