10 Reasons Narcissists Are Afraid of You

The narcissist will always be afraid of you, no matter what they’re fearful of regarding what you could do. They’re scared of your potential and worried you’ll finally realize it. Narcissists are afraid you’ll recognize who they really are and what they’ve done to you, forcing them to face the consequences.

10 Reasons Narcissists Are Afraid of You

Number 1: You Are Who You Are

The narcissist is afraid of you because you have an identity and a sense of self that do not depend on them. You can be yourself without caring about their opinion. This frightens them because it means they don’t have control over you. Narcissists can’t manipulate you as easily; when they try, it backfires. They don’t want to be seen for who they really are, so they keep the truth hidden. They know you’re not going to fall for their tricks forever, and that scares them. You see through their facade, and they know it, so they try to undermine you by making you doubt yourself or feel guilty about things that aren’t your fault.

Number 2: You Have Self-Respect

Narcissists can’t stand it when they see you have self-respect. They fear what that means for them, as they lack self-respect themselves and seek validation from others. When you have self-respect, you know what you want and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You set boundaries, which they dislike because they don’t have any. Seeing how much strength you draw from within makes them feel weak and powerless, which they despise above all else.

Number 3: You’re Not Afraid to Speak Up for Yourself

Narcissists fear you because you’re not afraid to speak up for yourself. They have a way of dominating a room and dislike it when you take the spotlight. When you confront them and tell them who they really are, you undermine their sense of power and control. When challenged, they may try to trick you into backing down, but if you remain strong and composed, they become upset as they realize they no longer control the situation.

Number 4: Your Self-Esteem Comes from Within, Not from Others’ Opinions

Narcissists need to feel superior to maintain their self-esteem; they don’t feel good about themselves unless they can look down on others. If you have high self-esteem, it threatens them. Your self-esteem comes from within, not from others. You don’t need approval to feel good about yourself or believe you are worthy of love and respect. You can accept feedback without letting it affect your self-image.

Number 5: You Don’t Need Other People for Validation
