Today, I want to talk about why the narcissist hates you but doesn’t leave you. It’s a bit of a conundrum: narcissists envy us and hate us, yet they cannot live without us. I will be sharing three reasons why this is so. By the end, you will know for sure what their motives are.
The first reason the narcissist hates you but will not leave you alone is narcissistic supply. Narcissists need people because that is how they get their narcissistic supply.
Narcissistic supply is the fuel that keeps narcissists going. It motivates them to get up and out every morning; it gives them that pep in their step. There are two forms of narcissistic supply for the narcissist: positive supply, which comes from admiration and attention, and the darker form of narcissistic supply, which comes from deceiving, manipulating, confusing, and hurting others. This dark form of narcissistic supply, usually not referred to as such, is something I delve into in this article to show how much narcissists crave it. Think of positive supply as serving their fake self, while dark narcissistic supply satisfies the narcissist’s true self.
Basically, narcissistic supply is what narcissists live on. If you provide any sort of narcissistic supply or are their primary source, the narcissist will not want to let you go. They don’t like to fully let go of anyone who can provide them with any form of narcissistic supply. This is why, even when they leave you for someone else, they still like to keep some sort of relationship going. Narcissists do not like to let go of their exes; they want to keep people as tag-alongs that they can use whenever they need to.
