As narcissists age, their behaviors often intensify or shift in unsettling ways. In their youth, narcissists are constantly on the hunt for more power or control, while the aging narcissist fights not to lose their existing power or control.
Today, I want to delve into some strange behaviors of the aging narcissist. Although the core traits of their narcissism—such as entitlement, lack of empathy, and selfishness—remain, the way they are expressed changes over time. I have identified ten strange habits that many narcissists exhibit.
The first odd habit an aging narcissist is likely to develop is talking endlessly about the past. As their physical beauty, control, or health declines, they become fixated on their past glory days, whether real or exaggerated. Narcissists often live in the future or the past, and the aging narcissist is more likely to reminisce constantly about the past, reminding people of their past successes even if no one asked. They may rewrite their history to make themselves look better or more successful than they actually were. Many narcissists love to talk, and as they age, that may be all they have left to do. They discuss who owes them, who hurt them, who betrayed them, and how fantastic they were but were never appreciated, ensuring that the narrative of who they really are remains hidden.
