You may be married technically, but you are emotionally alone. You are a single, married person. There is no real relationship. You’ve been emotionally divorced for a long time. Sure, you might be in the relationship, but being in it doesn’t mean you’re with someone. You are with somebody in name only, living in the same house, maybe even eating or sleeping together. But sharing a bed with them is like sleeping with a stranger. Eating with them is worse than eating with strangers, who at least show basic courtesy. This narcissist traumatizes you, so don’t expect any softness from them—there is none to be found.
2. Let the Narcissist Control Everything
You cannot have a say because your opinions don’t matter. Let them control your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, perceptions, life, and even your breaths. Let them control your money, too, because, according to them, you don’t know how to handle life. After all, they know more than you, right? So how dare you speak up? Swallow your words. You cannot expect to have a voice and coexist with a narcissist. You can’t have problems because, in their mind, any problems must have been caused by you.
What is freedom? That word must be erased from your dictionary. You can’t have a sense of self—that has to be compromised. You must erase your personality and let them chip away at your self-esteem and self-worth because, according to them, you can’t have any of those things. They will make all the choices, even on your behalf. You must let them control your children and their lives without ever intervening. You can’t express your love because whatever the narcissist is doing is justified. You cannot revolt, rebel, or demand better treatment.
