However, by not engaging and focusing on your own happiness, you cut off the narcissistic supply they crave. It’s like depriving them of oxygen; they need that validation to feel powerful, and when you don’t give it, they become frustrated.
Number three: The covert narcissist, often a master of disguise, does not want you to know that they are fully aware of their abusive behavior. In private, they may scream, yell, and insult, but in public, they put on a façade of kindness and patience. This contrast reveals that they know their actions are wrong; otherwise, they would behave the same way in all settings. They rely on your empathy, drawing you in with tales of their troubled past to keep you hopeful for change. But the truth is, they enjoy the power and control they wield over you.
