Number Five: They will change their appearance as holidays approach. Let’s say it’s Halloween. They’ll suddenly become super enthusiastic about it, dressing up and getting into the holiday spirit—things they never cared about before. Why? Because they want attention. They’ll want to be seen, noticed, and acknowledged. The same person who previously ignored these occasions will now be full of life, wanting to celebrate and enjoy the attention. For some narcissists, holidays are an opportunity to take the limelight, while others destroy holidays, especially if they’re grandiose or overt. Covert narcissists, on the other hand, might sulk and make themselves miserable right before the event, draining all the joy and ensuring no one gets to celebrate. It’s their way of ensuring that if they can’t be happy, neither can you.
