Here are five signs that you’re starting to defeat a narcissist:
- They revert to old tactics
Narcissists don’t have many tricks up their sleeve. They stick to what’s worked for them in the past, so when they feel threatened, they’ll go back to those familiar patterns. This is why narcissists can be predictable once you understand their behavior. Even though their actions can be awful, you’ll begin to anticipate their next moves. - Desperation starts to creep in
When their usual tactics fail, they become desperate. You might start getting strange texts with undertones of anger or even threats. The tension rises, and they begin to feel that defeat is closing in. - Their behavior becomes erratic
As they become more desperate, their actions might seem outlandish or nonsensical. They start behaving erratically, saying things that leave you wondering where that even came from. Their desperation escalates until they become unhinged, spiraling into full collapse. A good example of this is the character Hugh Grant plays in the miniseries The Undoing—a perfect portrayal of someone unraveling under pressure.
