Many narcissists have exhibited these behaviors since childhood or adolescence. Expecting them to change now is unrealistic. Therapy for narcissistic personality disorder often involves cognitive behavioral therapy, but its success is limited because narcissists rarely acknowledge they have a problem. They may also suffer from other mental illnesses, like depression or substance use disorder, which complicates their behavior further. Despite this, therapy is unlikely to be effective because the narcissist’s fundamental belief in their own infallibility prevents genuine change.
Trust in Yourself and Your Support System
Breaking free from a narcissist and sticking to No Contact can be challenging, but it’s the only way to reclaim your mental and emotional well-being. Trust in yourself and lean on your support system. Once you are free from the narcissist’s influence, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish and the peace you can achieve.
