With that in mind, one of the first things a narcissist may choose to copy is someone’s personality traits, such as their empathy, by faking kindness or compassion. They may fake vulnerability to match your openness in order to form a connection. If someone is admired for being confident and charismatic, the narcissist can mimic that to gain admiration for themselves. Narcissists can even mirror someone’s sense of humor if they realize it can make them more likable.
In intimate or close relationships, they take the time to observe your emotional responses so they can laugh when you laugh and cry when you cry, making it appear that you are both in sync. Along with personality traits, they may decide to mimic or copy someone’s communication style. This is not limited to just someone’s vocabulary or slang usage, but also their online or social media content. All these are things that narcissists are likely to copy from others.
Online and in-person social behaviors are taken from other personalities. They may imitate popular people or infiltrate social groups by behaving like individuals in those groups. They can create an online persona that replicates another influencer, friend, or celebrity. Narcissists have no true sense of self, so they are always looking for traits that they can mimic or adapt from others.
