Aside from copying you, narcissists will act as if they are the originals without acknowledging that you were the inspiration for their new knowledge, skills, signature phrases, or ideas. They essentially use you to help build their identity, and once they have absorbed all that you have to offer, they try to dim your light. The same traits or resources that drew you to them and that they have taken advantage of are now something they no longer want to see in you. They try to break you down, discredit you, and over time, you feel drained and unseen. The narcissist becomes the center of attention, while you are pushed out of the way, emotionally and mentally damaged from your interactions with them.
This is why a narcissist mirroring you is so destructive; it is not enough for them to copy you—they always eventually want to erase you so that you are not a competition for them. They will smear you, gaslight you, and turn people against you.
