Beneath the narcissist’s grandiose exterior lies a fragile ego. Any form of criticism or perceived slight deeply wounds them, but they will never show this vulnerability. Instead, they hide behind their self-importance, projecting an image of perfection while internally, they remain deeply insecure. This need for constant validation is what drives their behavior, leading them to seek out relationships where they can be the center of attention, adored and praised without end.
In the narcissist’s world, they believe everyone should revolve around them. They expect others to wait for them, admire them, and devote all attention to them. But in reality, the only thing that gets clouded in such a relationship is your mind. You become consumed by their needs, losing sight of your own. It’s only once you step away from the narcissist that you begin to see clearly how toxic the dynamic was.
