Again, as I mentioned in this article, gossiping and lies are one of the most popular ways Narcissists try to discredit people. And even though they enjoy talking about themselves they also do a lot of information gathering, especially in the early phase of a relationship with them.
Narcissists need something to work with. So, if they can get you to confide in them and tell them your deepest darkest secrets, they love that. And a major way they get people to open up to them is by pretending to be vulnerable and open.
So, the Narcissist would give you the impression that they trust you and can open up to you or tell you anything. And they would go on to tell you some heart-wrenching stories to make you think that they are bonding with you and confiding in you. But the truth is Narcissists are pathological liars and they are just baiting you to get you to confide in them. They use lies to get access to our truths which they can later use against us. But apart from the slander and lies Narcissists also enjoy humiliating people. So, if they can get others to laugh at you, they will.
