I did this article quite a while back addressing how Narcissists use humor. They would say and do the crudest or hurtful things and then try to convince you that they were just joking. They would make light of matters that they know are sensitive to you. And this is where the information gathering that they did comes into play as well. Because they now know your insecurities, concerns, or fears and they will use them against you.
For example, they would speak about your personal matters hypothetically in a group setting just to make you squirm. And if they can get others to laugh at these things that they know are so sensitive to you, that is the icing on top. But the Narcissist would also set you up for embarrassment. They would orchestrate events to ensure that you are laughed at or humiliated.
 The Narcissist would do all this just to ensure that people never take you seriously, that they never trust you or think of you highly in any regard. Narcissists enjoy ruining people’s reputations and life. They enjoy seeing us crumble before their very eyes. Because in their twisted minds although we may have done them no wrong, we are still a threat.
