The second reason the narcissist hates you but does not leave is that they do not want you to be happy without them. The narcissist knows that not only are you capable of finding someone better than them, but also that you can be happy without them. Nothing would hurt them more than seeing one of their major sources of supply slip through their fingers into someone else’s. Narcissists do not like it when people are genuinely happy, which is a clear indication of their selfishness and hatred towards you. They prefer to keep you isolated, miserable, and depressed instead of letting you go to find the happiness you deserve.
You become like a prisoner of their own making, and their desire is that you serve them. They want to take everything they can from you and leave you empty, ensuring that you will not be able to find happiness or bring happiness to anyone else. Narcissists are incapable of experiencing true happiness, and if they could stop everyone else from experiencing it, they would. For the narcissist, it’s simple: if they can’t be happy, why should you?
The third reason the narcissist hates you but does not leave is that they need to control you, and they cannot control you if you are not part of their lives. Control is the most important thing to narcissists because once they are in control, they can ensure they get their narcissistic supply and everything else they need to entertain themselves. The narcissist wants you near them to keep manipulating and controlling you. Ideally, they would control everyone around them and have them in total submission. Control is everything to the narcissist, which is why, as much as they hate you, they still need you.
