The Standard Advice: No Contact
The general rule in the recovery community is to go “no contact” with the narcissist as soon as you recognize their toxic traits. The advice is simple: once you see the signs, walk away and never look back. For most, this approach works and should be followed. But for some, the path isn’t so straightforward.
People often find themselves stuck, questioning everything: “I fell in love with someone who was so good to me. How can you say they have no empathy? How can I accept that they have no human element left in them when I saw their best side?” No matter how much you try to explain, their emotional self may struggle to accept the reality, even if they cognitively understand it. In such cases, re-exposure becomes necessary.
