A classic sign of narcissism is a lack of empathy. Narcissists generally don’t care about your feelings or the feelings of others, although they may sometimes pretend to. For example, if you’re going through a difficult time—perhaps you’ve lost a loved one or are experiencing a health issue—they won’t offer genuine support. Instead, they’ll turn the situation around to focus on themselves, seeking sympathy for how your challenges are affecting them.
Narcissists also struggle to admit when they’re wrong. They always want to be seen as right, even when it’s clear they made a mistake. They’ll argue endlessly to maintain control and often dismiss your opinions, making you feel like your thoughts don’t matter.
If you notice that your partner constantly seeks attention and validation, it could be another red flag. Some narcissists want to be the life of the party and hate it when someone else gets more attention than they do. Other types, like covert narcissists, may act more quietly but still feel jealousy when others are in the spotlight.
