The Worst Thing a Narcissist Does as They Get Old

The first reason narcissists target younger individuals is their lack of experience. For example, consider a man in his mid-60s intentionally pursuing a young woman around 20 years old. It’s not about preference; it’s about finding someone inexperienced in relationships.

This young woman, possibly new to the dating world, is likely in a romanticized mindset, emerging from her teenage years. She’s not at fault, but the narcissist exploits this fantasy. He presents himself as the perfect partner—mature, secure, understanding, and experienced—qualities that might appeal more than dating peers who are still figuring out their lives.

Unfortunately, she may not realize she’s falling for a master manipulator. He parades her as a trophy, saying, “Look, I’m still young and desirable.” She might initially feel cherished, but over time, the manipulation becomes evident. She experiences intense “love bombing,” mistaking its highs and lows for genuine love. However, these emotional swings are red flags for gaslighting and unhealthy dynamics.

Often, such women come from toxic households or chaotic environments. The narcissist capitalizes on this by feigning empathy and positioning himself as the solution to her problems. He might say, “I know what you’ve been through; I would never let my children endure such hardships.” She may unknowingly seek both a parental figure and a romantic partner, creating a complex and exploitative relationship dynamic.
