What Narcissists Do When You Ignore Them

The fifth and final way the Narcissist may respond is with indifference. They ignored you first, and when you didn’t chase them, they continue as if you don’t exist. This means no attempts to make contact, no attempts to hoover; they act as if it’s not a big deal and carry on with their lives. However, the reality is that the Narcissist is holding out to see who can ignore whom the longest. They may secretly believe that you need them more than they need you and that it’s just a matter of time before you break your silence. Their non-reaction is a way to make you feel insignificant in hopes of luring you back into seeking their approval. But it’s best never to go back because the Narcissist will only harbor resentment and seek to punish you for taking so long.

Emotional Predators

In conclusion, Narcissists are emotional predators. When you refuse to play their emotional games, you must decide to disconnect; otherwise, you risk being hoovered or targeted for revenge. When dealing with a Narcissist, prioritize your mental health and accept that life would be better without this person in it. If you can’t cut them off completely, create serious distance and boundaries. It’s not worth engaging with a Narcissist in their toxic games. Never chase them or seek their approval or validation, as it will only give them more control over you.
