Another possibility is that a narcissist has found a new source of validation or “supply.” Narcissists crave constant attention and admiration, so if you’re no longer providing it, they’ll seek it elsewhere. This doesn’t mean you did something wrong or weren’t “enough.” It simply reflects their perpetual search for the next person to stroke their ego.

When they find someone new, they may become engrossed in that relationship, leaving you behind—at least temporarily.

It’s All About Them, Not You

The most important thing to understand is that a narcissist’s silence has far more to do with them than with you. They’re not considering how their absence affects you or the pain it might cause. Instead, they’re preoccupied with their own needs, wants, and strategies for control.

Sometimes, they withdraw because they fear being exposed. If they sense that you’re beginning to see through their facade or have started holding them accountable, they may disappear to avoid confrontation. During this time, they regroup, devise a new strategy, or simply wait for you to let your guard down.
