Their words are only effective if you believe them and if you are emotionally bonded with them. But once those ties are broken and you accept them for the pathological liars and manipulators that they are, their words will be of no effect. And more importantly, it will be clear to you that they are just projecting their own negativities, fears, and insecurities onto you.
When you accept this, you will no longer react negatively when they speak this way, nor will you internalize the things they say. The narcissist’s false accusations and lies will only fall on deaf ears and will frustrate and anger them. But, in the end, the narcissist’s destructive statements are their truth, their reality, but they are lies that we must reject.
