5 Places Where Narcissists Are Most Protected & You’re Tortured
I have nothing against any religion, but the irony here is deeply heartbreaking. A religious institution is ideally supposed to be a sacred sanctuary of truth, humility, compassion, and moral accountability. It is meant to defend the brokenhearted, stand up against evil, and offer a safe harbor for those who are suffering. Yet this is often the very place where a narcissist builds an ironclad fortress around themselves.
Some narcissistic abusers deliberately construct a deeply devout religious persona. Why? Because they understand the massive protection a holy reputation provides. They show up early every week, sit in the front row, donate large sums of money, volunteer for every leadership committee, and form close personal relationships with religious leaders. They quote holy texts with effortless precision while making sure the entire community views them as a saintly, morally upright pillar of faith.
The trap snaps shut when you, as the victim behind closed doors, finally muster the courage to speak up about the emotional torture they’re putting you through—the screaming and secret cruelty happening in your home. When you tell the community leaders what is actually going on, what do you get? Disgusted faces. They either don’t react or respond with absolute disbelief. They stare at you and say, “Not them! They’re such a faithful, godly, generous person. You’re crazy. You were sent by the devil.”
The narcissist doesn’t even have to defend themselves or prove their innocence. They don’t have to lift a finger because their pious public reputation has already convinced everyone of their goodness. The institution that was built to protect the lamb ends up shielding the wolf while accusing the bleeding victim of trying to destroy a holy reputation.
Number two: Narcissists weaponize the legal system in courtrooms.
