5 Things a Narcissist does when they’re alone
The most obvious go-to when left alone is getting drunk, using substances, or visiting adult websites to feed their fantasies. This is often why they struggle to be truly intimate with you: their expectations of physical intimacy are completely distorted, based entirely on fantasy rather than real human connection.
Viewing a screen or consuming substances feeds their false self and stimulates them mentally in a way reality cannot, as they are completely disconnected from real life. True intimacy requires vulnerability, whereas looking at a screen requires none, making it an easy escape for them.

When heavily drunk or high, they might call you out of nowhere to say bizarre things—either overwhelming you with uncalled-for love-bombing or subjecting you to extreme devaluation and berating. You won’t know what triggered it, but for them, it is simply a way to stroke their ego and achieve a high so they don’t have to face the low of their true self. When left alone, their internal shame, insecurity, and fragmented identity start to surface. That internal reality is suffocating and painful for them, so they run away from their own shadow. Their life is built on pretending to be someone they are not, which is where their deep, underlying self-hatred stems from—a self-hatred they ultimately project onto you.
All in all, a narcissist does not cope well when left alone; their own internal presence eats them alive.
