Narcissists are professional actors. They know exactly how to play the victim, how to act charming, and how to look completely innocent in front of the world. Even when they abuse you behind closed doors, they try to justify it by acting like you provoke them. They always need a reason for their rage.
But when your rescue is imminent, God forces the actor to drop the script.
You’ll be having a completely normal, mundane moment. Maybe you’re sitting in the car waiting at a red light. Or maybe you’re folding laundry together. There is no argument. There is no tension. But suddenly you look over and their mask completely slips.
For these terrifying seconds, you see the real them. Their eyes go completely black and dead. A cold, demonic smirk crosses their face.
They may casually say something so chilling, so purely evil, and so completely devoid of human empathy that your blood runs cold. Time stops. They don’t yell. They just let you see the absolute void inside of them.
They quickly snap back to normal and try to laugh it off—but the damage is done.
