It begins with a straightforward moment.

Something catches your attention. You can think of anything. You maintain your composure.

All of a sudden, they won’t let you finish.

They cut you off. They write it off. They doubt your intention, your tone, and your recollection.

Not the problem.

You.

Because they won’t ever have to deal with what you just revealed if they can make you appear untrustworthy.

I recall saying something as basic as “That didn’t feel honest to me.”

I was interrupted before I could finish explaining.

You’re thinking too much. Things are always twisted by you. You’re never able to grasp context.

It arrived quickly. Too quickly.

I assumed it was frustration at the time.

I get it now.

It was a tactic.

Narcissists don’t stand up for the truth when they feel vulnerable.

The witness is discredited.

And if you’re thinking, “Maybe I’m too sensitive, maybe I misunderstood,”

Take a moment.

It was a doubt.

Not found.

Because you can be heard without being silenced by self-assured, emotionally sound people.

Only those who are in danger do.
