7 things a narcissist secretly wants from you when there’s no contact.

Attention is emotional fuel for many narcissists. Whether the attention is positive or negative, it still gives them a sense of importance. During no contact, that constant stream of attention disappears completely, and for someone used to controlling emotional focus, that silence can feel deeply uncomfortable and unsettling.

This is why some narcissists suddenly create drama when they feel ignored. They may post things online designed to provoke jealousy or curiosity. They may suddenly appear happier, more successful, or emotionally transformed. But often the real goal is not personal growth. The real goal is to pull your attention back toward them again.

Number four. They want you to doubt your decision.

One of the hardest things for a narcissist to accept is the idea that someone finally escaped their emotional control. So during no contact, they often hope you begin second guessing yourself. They want you wondering if maybe things were not really that bad. They want you remembering only the good moments while minimizing the pain, because once doubt enters your mind, the chances of reconnecting emotionally become much higher.

This is why narcissists sometimes return with apologies, emotional messages, or sudden vulnerability… not always because they fully understand the damage they caused, but because they sense your emotional boundaries becoming stronger, and they desperately want to weaken those boundaries again.

Number five. They want access to your empathy.

Narcissists often know that empaths and caring people struggle with guilt, so they may present themselves as wounded, misunderstood, lonely, or emotionally broken. They want you feeling sorry for them again, because empathy can reopen emotional doors that logic was trying to keep closed.

Suddenly they talk about stress, depression, family problems, or personal struggles. And while some of those struggles may be real, they are often used strategically to reactivate your emotional compassion. Because once your empathy becomes stronger than your boundaries, the cycle can begin repeating itself again.
