Shocked! The Narcissist Wasn’t Ready to See This Side of You
The narcissist was not ready to see this side of you because the version of you they became comfortable with was the one that kept giving them chances. They knew the you who explained yourself. The you who stayed awake trying to understand what went wrong. The you who came back after arguments because you hated unresolved tension. The you who could be deeply hurt and still wake up the next morning wondering how to fix the relationship.
They studied that version of you so well that eventually they stopped seeing your care as care and started seeing it as a permanent personality. They assumed this was simply who you were: someone who would always care more, forgive faster, tolerate longer, and keep the door open no matter how many times they slammed it in your face. They built their entire strategy around your empathy.
