Shocked! The Narcissist Wasn’t Ready to See This Side of You
That last part is what they misunderstood most about you. They thought because you had a big heart, you had no ending. They thought because you were compassionate, you could always be reactivated. They thought that because you understand trauma, insecurity, childhood wounds, attachment, fear, and everything underneath their behavior, you would keep using that understanding to excuse what they were doing to you. They weaponized your empathy against you.
You can forgive for a very long time. But there comes a point where forgiveness stops pulling you back and your body starts rejecting what your mind kept trying to excuse. You forgive until there is no going back. You forgive until their presence itself starts making you feel nauseated. Until the same voice that once calmed you starts exhausting you. Until the same face you once searched for in a room starts making your stomach tighten. Until their touch feels heavy because your body remembers what your heart tried to forget.
That is the part the narcissist never expects. They think there will always be one more emotional opening, one more soft corner, one more memory they can use to get back inside. But sometimes they don’t lose you in one dramatic moment. They lose you by making you override yourself so many times that eventually your nervous system refuses to cooperate with the fantasy anymore.
