Whenever a narcissist is around, there is a heavy, suffocating pressure in the air. They become the vacuum that sucks in all the happiness, all the joy—and it gets dark for no reason. Everyone feels it.
It is the unspoken demand that you must perform for them. You must make yourself smaller so they can look bigger—feel bigger at least. You must constantly validate them and massage their fragile self-esteem.
But you are someone who is entirely comfortable in your own skin. You do not need their validation to feel good about yourself, which means you have zero motivation to perform for their approval.
You do not shrink yourself to make them comfortable. You walk into a room owning your space—confident in your own worth. And that, to a narcissist, is an unforgivable offense.
They’re deeply insecure—you know that—and they hide behind a mask of superiority. Seeing someone who genuinely loves themselves and feels comfortable in their own skin triggers their deepest, darkest jealousy.
They hate you because you possess the one thing they can never buy, steal, or fake: true self-acceptance.
Number four: you display raw, unscripted joy and empathy, which instantly exposes the hollow, fake, orchestrated nature of their entire existence.
