The Narcissist’s Real Addiction Isn’t Attention — It’s Your Mind

It isn’t that you stop thinking about what happened. It’s that when you do, you’re no longer automatically assuming they were right and you were wrong — no longer combing back through old arguments looking for the version where it was your fault. You start trusting your own memory of events again, your own read of your own feelings.

That shift — from moving on to, in a sense, moving back home to your own judgment — is really the whole project. Not becoming who you were before, since that version hadn’t yet learned what you now know, but becoming someone whose mind, finally, belongs to them again.
