5 Insane Things Only a Narcissist Does.
They don’t think the same moral codes apply to them.
And the craziest thing is: they apply the rules to you, not to themselves.
For example:
- You have to be loyal to them, no matter how many times they cheat.
- You can’t talk to anybody—you owe them loyalty.
- You have to be honest and completely transparent.
- You have to be present, compassionate, affectionate.
- You have to contribute.
- You have to raise their children.
- You have to earn, you have to give, and you have to provide all the freedom they demand.
- You can’t put any limitations on them.
But when it comes to you? None of that is reciprocated. You don’t receive anything from them. You can’t have freedom. There is extreme rigidity in the relationship.
You can’t think about yourself. The moment you focus on your individuality, you’re called selfish. You’re called arrogant. The moment you deviate from their set path, you become an enemy.
That triggers devaluation. As long as you follow the set path, and as long as you act like a robot and follow instructions, you’re on good terms with them—you’re in their “good books.”
But the moment you express your uniqueness—your individuality—and the moment you try to take care of yourself, you become their enemy.
With a narcissist, you can’t have uniqueness. You can’t have a personality of your own. You have to abandon yourself to exist.
They’re crazy enough to believe that the rules they set for you cannot apply to them.
Basically, they are the biggest hypocrites you will ever come across. They want it their way—like you already know.
Which brings us to number five.
