What happens when an Empath Turns Dark on the Narcissist
Think about how much energy you spent catching the falling knives in the narcissist’s life—because you were the barrier between them and the consequences. Whenever they made a mess, you cleaned it up. When they insulted a family member, you smoothed things over. When they spent all their money, you covered the bills.
When they threw a childish fit at work, you stayed up all night comforting them and telling them the world was just mean to them.
You were the emotional shock absorber that kept their fragile life from crashing into the pavement.
When you turn dark, you simply step out of the way. You stop catching the knives. You let reality hit them at full speed.
When they create drama with their friends, you don’t defend them. When they make a terrible decision that ruins their finances, you don’t bail them out. You pull your hands back completely and watch their life implode from a safe distance.
Without your protective shield, the narcissist’s world begins to fall apart instantly. They didn’t know how to handle the natural consequences of their own actions, because you always took the hit for them.
Now the hits are landing directly on their own chin.
They look around for their savior, but you are just standing on the sidelines, watching the clock tick—entirely unbothered by the smoke and the fire.
