When a Narcissist Hurts Someone Who Gave Them Everything THESE 6 Things Happen
The day you realize you no longer want the old them back—because you finally know the real them—is the day they lose their hold on you forever.
You aren’t just leaving a bad situation. You are walking back into your own life, and this time you aren’t leaving yourself behind.
Eventually, the silence will break and they will try to hoover you back into their orbit. It usually starts small—a casual text asking if you’ve seen a certain movie, a “thinking of you” message, or even a sudden soft apology that sounds exactly like what you’ve wanted to hear for years. But you have to see this for what it actually is: a probe.
It isn’t a sign of growth, and it certainly isn’t a sign of remorse. It is a calculated loyalty test to see if the door to your energy is still unlocked. They aren’t reaching out because they miss your soul. They are reaching out because their current source of attention has run dry, and they want to see if they can still pull a reaction out of you.
To a narcissist, even a negative response is a win because it proves they still have the power to move your needle. They are checking to see if you are still “available” to be used when their world feels empty.
If you make the mistake of letting them back in without seeing a total, sustained change in their character—which almost never happens—you aren’t going back to the beginning of the relationship. You are going back into a cycle that moves 10 times faster and cuts 10 times deeper.
The second time around, the honeymoon phase is shorter because they already know they have you. The devaluation happens almost immediately because, in their mind, your willingness to take them back is a sign of weakness—not a sign of your capacity to forgive. They lose even the small amount of respect they had for you because you fell for it again. The discard that follows will be even more cold and even more abrupt.
By reopening that door, you aren’t giving them a chance to be better. You are giving them a chance to finish the job of breaking you.
