5 Insane Lies Narcissists Tell Themselves to Survive Their Own Collapse
They’re just slapping fresh paint on a rotting wall. They build this loud, flashy, pseudo-life for one reason: to hurt you. They want you to look at them and think they won. They want to trigger your pain, so you reach out to them. They tell themselves that as long as they look happy on the outside, they’ve defeated you.
But behind closed doors, they’re still the same empty, miserable person they were yesterday.
The fifth lie: They tell themselves they still own you and that you will come back crawling. This is the most insane, arrogant lie of them all. Even after treating you horribly, even after everything falls apart, they do not believe you are actually gone forever. They tell themselves this is just a phase. They’re just throwing a tantrum. Once they realize how hard the real world is, they will come crawling back and crying.
They view you as an object—like a toy they put on a shelf. A toy does not have feelings or boundaries. It just waits for the owner to pick it up again. They lie to themselves. They think that they hold a permanent key to your mind.
They tell themselves that if they just snap their fingers, send one text message, or show up at your door, you will forget everything and let them back in. They use this line as a safety net. Whenever they feel scared or lonely in their broken life, they comfort themselves by thinking, “Well, I can always just get them back.” They refuse to accept that your door is permanently locked.
