A narcissist views your money as their money, and they view your financial independence as a direct threat to their control over you. There will always be another sudden, manufactured crisis that requires your wallet to be fixed immediately.
They will make reckless financial decisions without asking you, run up the credit cards, or invent another dramatic reason why your hard-earned savings need to be used. You can keep earning a great salary for years and still never feel financially secure—because something always happens to pull your bank account right back to zero.
They keep you living paycheck to paycheck on purpose. Because if you have enough money saved in the bank, you have the financial power to rent your own place, pack your bags, and finally walk away from them. That’s why they keep you trapped.
