The Ultimate Dirty Trick The Narcissist Tries When He Sees You as Too Strong
Once a narcissist realizes they can no longer dominate, manipulate, guilt, shame, or control you the way they once did, one of the most common things they’ll do is begin weaponizing guilt and shame in a far more deliberate and strategic way. Why? Well, because guilt and shame are the last remaining emotional hooks they can use to regain access—especially if you’re an empathetic, conscientious, caring person with a good heart.
They’ll literally weaponize your kindness and use it against you. They know that outright intimidation or control may no longer work the way it once did. So instead, they’ll work to make you feel like you are the problem for finally standing up for yourself and setting limits and boundaries.
Suddenly, you’re cold, selfish, mean, bitter, unforgiving, difficult, too sensitive—or you’ve changed, and not in a good way. They may even imply that your boundaries or your emotional detachment are somehow cruel and unfair to them.
If there’s one thing a narcissist cannot stand, it’s your emotional detachment.
So, the narcissist will attempt to pathologize your newfound strength, confidence, and courage—your boundaries and standards—in order to trigger in you self-doubt, obligation, and feelings of guilt and shame. Because deep down, they know that if they can get you to feel guilty enough and ashamed enough, they may still be able to manipulate you into lowering your standards, abandoning yourself, and re-entering the toxic dynamic.
And when that doesn’t work, they’ll move on to the ultimate dirty trick. They’ll create a false crisis or some kind of sudden, fake vulnerability, and naturally, you’ll be expected to come to the rescue.
Once a narcissist realizes you’re becoming emotionally stronger, harder to manipulate, and less reactive to their usual tactics, don’t be surprised if they suddenly manufacture some form of crisis, emergency, or dramatic vulnerability in order to pull you back in emotionally.
And once you see that pattern, here’s what’s actually happening underneath it.
