6 Ways a Narcissist Uses Sleep To Cheat On You
They would act all tired and hang up on you—or disconnect the call. That’s very disrespectful.
They’ll say they need to sleep, or they can’t hold the conversation because they can’t focus. Let’s say this is a long-distance relationship, and you get to talk with them weekly—or in the evening.
When you talk to them, they might be on a different call. You’re waiting for them to receive your call. When they pick up, they make excuses in the moment—because they’re pathological liars. And somehow they convince you that they were talking with their boss or coworker, or that they were busy in a meeting.
Then they get bored instantly—maybe within a couple of minutes—and they want to leave. They come up with excuses like:
“I’m dead tired from work today.”
“I had a bad day at work.”
“I had a fight with my boss.”
“I had an argument with my employee,” or “stuff like that.”
Nothing about it makes sense. But it makes you feel so bad, because you waited for this conversation all day. And when it finally happens, what do you get? Complete indifference. Lack of interest. Lack of warmth. Lack of connection.
All they want is to escape. And it’s not just escapism. It’s not that they truly want to disconnect from you and then go to sleep. They don’t go to sleep.
What do they do instead? They use their other number, their other phone, other sources of connection and communication—to wander and talk with other sources of supply online or offline—whatever is possible—because of course you’re not watching.
So they do unacceptable things behind your back, and then they act like nothing happened. They act like they didn’t do anything. They don’t feel guilt. They don’t feel remorse. And the next day, they text you in the morning:
“Hey babe, how are you doing today? How was the night?”
And when you ask them about the feelings you have about what happened last time—when you try to talk about it—they twist it around. They call you needy. They call you too sensitive. They blame you for things you never did.
This is how they escape: through their tiredness, through their sleep, through their need to rest.
