What Narcissists Do When You’re Too Tough to Control, Manipulate, and Dominate
What happens when a narcissist realizes they can’t control you anymore? When the guilt doesn’t work, the manipulation doesn’t work, and it becomes very clear that you know your own mind and you’re onto them, they don’t back down, and they certainly don’t congratulate you on your growth. What they do is change tactics, and they get mean—very mean. If you don’t understand what’s happening, you can easily take their reactions as proof that you did something wrong, when in reality, their reaction isn’t proof that you’re the problem. It may just mean that you’re becoming harder to manipulate.
So, in this article, I’m going to show you what narcissists do when they realize they’re losing control, why their behavior can escalate, and, most importantly, what you can do to protect yourself.
If you’ve ever experienced someone going from warm to cold the moment you showed any degree of strength, you’ve probably wondered, “What am I doing wrong? Why are they punishing me for this?” That’s no accident.
What happens when it becomes clear that you actually have a backbone, dignity, integrity, and self-respect? You have standards and boundaries. What happens when it’s clear that you have the capacity for wise discernment and are therefore able to see through them? You’re your own person. You know your own mind, and you aren’t open to—or available for—manipulative control and power dynamics in any relationship.
What happens when it becomes clear that the narcissist’s tactics have zero sway over you? You’re immovable. What will the narcissist do? How will they handle that? Well, not very well.
