When a Narcissist Realizes You Don’t Care Anymore…They Do THIS
Now, if you are grade-A supply—something the narcissist absolutely positively needs or wants—they are not going to want to let you go. They’ll lay it on thick. They’ll try to win you over, win you over, win you over. That’s when a narcissist can be relentless.
People say, “The narcissist won’t leave me alone.” If a narcissist won’t leave you alone, it means you have something they want. If they could get it somewhere else, they wouldn’t be bothering you and haunting you the way they are.
So if they won’t leave you alone, then you definitely have something they don’t want to lose.
But again, a lot of times they’ll give it time—let you cool down—hope that you miss them—and then come back to try again, because they feel they have nothing to lose. And if you have something they want or need, they’ll try again.
Now, I want to bring up something else that a lot of people don’t think about.
A lot of times, when a narcissist sees that you don’t care, they automatically assume it’s because you’ve got somebody else. They assume you met someone, talked to someone, or you’re cheating on them.
So when you’re showing them that you don’t care anymore, many narcissists will think you’re cheating on them—even when you’re not. You’re just starting to see the narcissist for what they are.
Now you want to move on with your life. You’re sick of their games, manipulation, lies, and gaslighting.
But the narcissist thinks, “Oh, you don’t care anymore. You’ve got somebody. You’ve got somebody.” Then they start accusing you of cheating and they run a smear campaign—like no other—online and through other people. They’ll spread lies about you, claiming you were cheating, and that’s why you’re pulling away.
They’ll call you a dirty dog. They’ll call you toxic. They’ll even call you the narcissist.
So because you’re pulling away and showing them you don’t care, a narcissist will assume: you must have somebody, because narcissists believe you can’t be alone.
That’s the difference between an empath and a narcissist. An empath can be alone. An empath can break up and spend long periods by themselves before getting into another relationship. A narcissist, on the other hand, usually has that other person lined up before they even break up with you. They can’t be alone. That’s how insecure they are. They can’t handle feeling abandoned or feeling like nobody wants them.
They also want to prove something—like, “Look at me. I have somebody.”
