When a Narcissist Realizes You Don’t Care Anymore…They Do THIS
When you take a break from a narcissist, it needs to be a clean break. If you have mutual friends, those friends will go back and tell the narcissist everything—how you’re doing, what you’re doing, whether you’re dating someone, if you’re happy, if you’re depressed.
If you don’t want to lose those friends, then don’t tell them what’s going on in your life. Don’t give the narcissist information through anyone else.
Now, when you show a narcissist you don’t care, you’re also showing them you have power. You don’t have to chase. You’re not begging. It shows strength.
And that’s one of the ways people say you “hurt” a narcissist—showing them indifference. Showing them you don’t care. Showing them you couldn’t care less whether they exist. You’re not angry anymore. You’re not chasing them anymore. You couldn’t care less—because you’ve got your own life going.
They’re no longer important. They’re no longer a priority.
And again, this is a narcissistic injury. Narcissists want to feel important. They want you chasing. Narcissists always want you chasing.
So when you show them you don’t care and you’re not chasing, if they don’t need you, they go get busy with other supply. It won’t affect them.
But if they need you, then they’ll try to relove bomb you again. They’ll try to Hoover you.
Now, what happens when you reject the Hoover attempt? When you reject the Hoover, the narcissist either moves on to somebody else—or they get wicked.
They’re completely rejected. You’ve shown them you don’t care and you’re rejecting them. They try love bombing again—and when it fails, that’s when they can really start smearing you.
They’ll tell everyone you’re a cheater, a liar, a manipulator. They’ll play the victim. They’ll say you did them dirty—like they really tried in the relationship. They’ll call you toxic. They’ll call you the narcissist.
So when you show a narcissist you don’t care, expect them to run your name through the mud. Expect it. How dare you not care about the narcissist? They think they’re “so special”—the catch of the year. They think you should be laying the red carpet out for them.
Well, not today.
